The Ford Edge is ready to delight UK drivers with sharp style and impressive 4x4 capabilities. Available to test-drive now, this highly-anticipated model sits at the pinnacle of our SUV range.
Ford has based the Edge on the same vehicle platform as the Mondeo, Galaxy and S-MAX, making it both instantly recognisable and more cost-effective to repair and maintain. The model will join the range as the tallest, longest and widest Ford yet. It has a distinct SUV style, visible in the matt black underside protection, 20-inch alloy wheels and dominating chrome front grille.
The interior's as roomy as you'd expect from a crossover, and the dashboard has been designed with a minimalist approach. With the rear seats folded down, as much as 1,788 litres of load space is available – cementing the Edge's appeal to businesses and executive drivers. The completely flat bay makes loading, unloading and transporting items so much simpler.
Ford's adaptive steering system is a standard addition to the model, and Active Noise Isolation will cancel out exterior sounds to improve the audio system's clarity. All infotainment is displayed on a 10-inch touchscreen inset to the centre console, including Ford SYNC 2 with handy voice control.
The Edge is expected to join a succession of safe Ford cars claiming a five-star Euro NCAP rating. Front and rear cameras are fitted to aid manoeuvres and parking. Collision prevention systems are built in as standard, and inflatable rear seatbelts add tailored protection.
A single engine option will deliver all of the power and efficiency drivers are searching for. The 2.0-litre diesel unit comes with either 178bhp or 207bhp, matching to a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox respectively. The higher-powered engine will also provide the option of gear shift paddles mounted to the steering wheel.
It's expected that the Edge will run in four-wheel drive, generating plenty of torque to handle more challenging terrains. CO2 emissions are also reduced across the range, lending drivers that bit more confidence when at the wheel and putting the vehicle in a lower tax bracket.
