A new Ford Mondeo is now here, bringing with it a wider choice of engines, added premium styling and an even higher level of passenger protection.
The new design of the Mondeo ensures that it's closer in appearance to the newest Focus and Fiesta. It stands tall on 19-inch alloys, showing off highly polished exhaust pipes and new LED headlights. A wider front grille completes the refreshed face and the 'Kinetic' design language used overall.
Interior updates mean a much more premium atmosphere, with many surfaces now finished in soft-touch cloth: quilted leather seats, luxury door mats and a leather-covered steering wheel. The centre console has been enlarged to give the driver a more immersive, cockpit-style environment from which to enjoy each journey. A new position for the dashboard and the seats also gives passengers increased personal space.
The Ford SYNC package is expected to be a standard feature, combining safety and infotainment features developed by Microsoft. Integrated Bluetooth and internet accessibility will be at the driver's fingertips, and MyFord Touch provides quick voice control of all major functions.
As the previous incarnation of the Mondeo achieved a five-star rating in Euro NCAP testing, the new generation should offer even greater protection. It continues to make an ideal family car, coming with a reinforced body, surrounding airbags, ISOFIX child seat attachments and rain-sensing wipers.
Petrol and diesel engines will be offered, as well as an advanced Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV). The diesel is also available with a four-wheel drive system for the first time with the Mondeo. All engines are EcoBoost versions with both impressive power and fuel-saving technology.
The hybrid is set to become one of the most efficient cars on the road, with an equivalent fuel economy of 65mpg and only 99g/km of CO2 emissions. It will also run solely on electric power at speeds of up to 62mph.
