As part of a push towards both luxury vehicles and the SUV segment, Ford is combining the two with the new Ford Edge Vignale. The Vignale model follows a new version of the original Edge which launched last year. It debuted during the 2016 Geneva Motor Show and will soon be in showrooms across the UK.
Changes to the style and body of the Edge include a new hexagonal front grille, which brings the Vignale series together visually. New 20-inch wheels give the SUV a raised stance, and chrome strips span both sides. The Edge Vignale also features dual exhaust pipes, along with 'Vignale' badging at the rear. To complete the look, paintwork shades including Vignale Ametista Scura Brown and Vignale White Platinum are available.
Larger proportions mean more interior space in which to relax – and drivers benefit from a heated seat. The leather upholstery has a hexagonal pattern which matches the grille, making the exclusive Vignale look cohesive. 'Tuxedo' piping and a double-stitch finish show the incredible level of detail which has gone into designing and hand-crafting the new Edge.
To support the increased capacity and load limit, the Edge Vignale can be chosen with a more powerful engine. This new 2.0-litre turbo diesel generates 207bhp, and is also an option for the new Kuga Vignale.
Something else both vehicles arrive with is next-generation Ford SYNC 3 on an eight-inch 'pinch and zoom' touchscreen. The Vignale range will be among the first Ford cars globally to feature the technology. Changes to the voice-activated controls make the system more 'human' to use. For example, stating that you need petrol or diesel will prompt directions to the closest fuel station.
When it comes to the safety specification for the SUV, there are some things which reassuringly stay the same. Ford has maintained a high level of protection and enhanced several of the driver assistance systems. Traffic sign recognition is standard, as is hands-free Perpendicular Park.
