Updates on the 2017 Ford GT

Following a bold, hotly-anticipated return to endurance racing this year, the new Ford GT is arriving in UK dealerships very soon. It was first revealed at the Geneva Motor Show and Detroit Motor Show during 2015, and could officially launch as early as this summer (June 2016).

A lightweight carbon-fibre build makes the car supremely agile and aerodynamic, and the gullwing doors create a futuristic atmosphere. It sits low, almost brushing the ground, with a dramatic wedge shape that enhances the streamlining of air over the body. Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup tyres have been specially developed for the 20-inch wheels, which are also made from lighter materials.

Before even seeing the GT up close in the showroom, you can customise the looks and colour scheme using Ford's new online configurator. It has been developed and launched specifically for the new GT. There are eight paintwork shades and eight 'racing stripe' decals to mix and match.

Likewise, four interior colour schemes include the evocatively-named 'Dark Energy' and 'Light Speed' packages. The full digital instrument panel can be tailored to the type of journey being made.

Precise performance engineering means the track-ready GT produces close to 600bhp. In the road car, the same 3.5-litre turbo charged V6 engine will thrill and inspire. The new GT will instantly become the fastest road-going Ford vehicle ever produced. A potential top speed of 200mph could be reached, following the incredible 0-60mph time of just three seconds.

Ford has made sure to retune the engine slightly for optimum road use. It will partner with a seven-speed automatic gearbox unique to the GT, so drivers can comfortably enjoy the ride without making gear shifts.

You will need to hurry if you want to be a new Ford GT owner. For the first two years of production, only 500 models will be built worldwide – 250 per year. The UK could receive as few as ten cars in total annually, making the owners’ club attractively exclusive.
